Description

This White-Tailed Kite (Elanus leucurus) was a lifetime first for me, and it posed for us for several minutes on Sportsmen Road, adjacent to West Galveston Bay on the northern edge of Galveston Island, Texas. It was early morning, and the temperature was a few degrees above freezing, with sustained winds around 40 mph, so its feathers were fluffed out as much as possible as a buffer against the cold.
