Description
On our second night trying to photograph the Milky Way during the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, we were met with tougher conditions. We had driven 30 minutes to an old cemetery I had visited years before, arriving about 30 minutes after sunset. However, the moon was waxing fuller and higher in the west, illuminating the sky. Plus, a dense cloud bank was covering most of the southern half of the sky, with no intentions of moving or clearing at all. The principal stars of Sagitarrius and Scorpio are visible through the clouds in right center, indicating where the Milky Way would have been. But we were there, so I decided to make the most of what I had. I used some judicious light painting on the gravestones, and a lot of post-processing to re-create what was an eerie scene. This is a single photograph, and no objects in the photo were altered, except to reduce two distracting LED lights on the far left. Marak Cemetery, north of Buckholts, Milam County, Texas.
