Cattle egrets (Bubulcus ibis) are commonly seen in association with herds of cattle in our region. They arrive in flocks, and make a living eating insects stirred up as the cattle move through the pasture. This egret had just flown low over the black angus in the background, showing off its rose-colored breeding plumage as it disappeared into the high grass where several others had already landed. Taken this afternoon in Bell County, Texas.

I prefer the challenge of trying to capture the unpredictable spontaneity of things and events as they are occurring. I started with a Kodak Brownie as a child, but entered the world of real photography with a Canon AE-1 in the late 1970's.
