I had slowly advanced toward these two Yellow-Crowned Night Herons (Nyctanassa violacea) when a jogger passed by with his dog. The one closer to me elected to wait it out, but the other bolted to safer ground on the other side of the pond.

Gary Holmes, photographer: I have always loved to photograph nature, landscapes, abstract, and other found objects of interest. I prefer the challenge of trying to capture the unpredictable spontaneity of things and events as they are occurring.
