Our upstart sunflower (Helianthus annuus), a gift from neighborhood birds in return for feeding them all winter, just opened its bloom a few days ago, inviting me to take macro photos. I noticed for the first time that each seed comes from its own individual microfloret within the larger structure of the sunflower blossom, as demonstrated in the photo. More sunflower shots to come.
