Description
A large Texas Rat Snake (Elaphe obsoleta lindheimerii) climbed onto a metal railing on a back porch one summer, inviting some close encounters. These highly beneficial and non-poisonous snakes are excellent climbers, and will go down holes, or into trees and under homes in search of their favorite rodent prey.

Gary Holmes, photographer: I have always loved to photograph nature, landscapes, abstract, and other found objects of interest. Although I have staged single and group portraits and still life photographs, I prefer the challenge of trying to capture the unpredictable spontaneity of things and events as they are occurring. I started with a Kodak Brownie as a child, but entered the world of real photography with a Canon AE-1 in the late 1970's. I have successfully sold a number of my photographs on Fine Art America, and have won several awards, including an Editors' Choice on 500px, as well as a 5-star Editor's Choice designation in Camerapixo's Hot Shots, Volume 4. Great shot Gary! Now...tell me...how many shots did it take to get a good capture of the tongue! =)
Gary Holmes replied:
Thank you, Charles. Actually, I only took a few shots before it decided I was too close. Just lucky timing on this one.
