Description
A Crested Caracara (Caracara cheriway) presents a strong profile portrait as it looks over a pasture from a favorite tree branch in Milam County, Texas. These are really large birds, standing about two feet tall. They are somewhat comical in appearance, making me think of a bald eagle with a bad toupee (You are free to disagree). They sometimes stand upright or run in fields like a huge roadrunner, or soar with vultures overhead. They are often scavengers, and many of the ones I have seen have been among groups of vultures, communing over a nice meal of fresh carrion. Probably so they look elegant by comparison.

Gary Holmes, photographer: I am an opportunist photographer of nature, landscapes, abstract, and other found objects of interest. I prefer to capture the spontaneity of things and events as they are occurring, and rarely photograph staged subjects other than portraits. Although I have been a photographer for decades, I continue to study and learn the craft. Long ago, I embraced the hugely expanded opportunities offered by digital photography, but I have only been posting them online since September 2012. As a result, I have now successfully sold several of my works. I will continue to post my very best works on FAA and other sites every day or two, as time permits. Please revisit my sites periodically. I welcome your votes, support and gently constructive criticism or suggestions, all of which help guide me in my photographic journey.
