Description
This Turk's Cap (Malvaviscus arboreus var. drummondii) flower, with its many diminutive residents, lives in our yard and was lit up by the evening sun. I liked the backgroud leaf and bokeh, which I brought out through digital manipulation. The actual size of the entire blossom, from base to the tip of the pistil, is about 2 inches. These plants are native to the eastern half of Texas and much of the southern US, and is remarkably tolerant of wet, dry, sunny or shady areas. Apparently its flowers, leaves and seeds are edible, although I cannot vouch for this yet myself.
________
Gary Holmes, photographer: I am an opportunist photographer of nature, landscapes, abstract, and other found objects of interest. I prefer to capture the spontaneity of things and events as they are occurring, and rarely photograph staged subjects other than portraits. Although I have been a photographer for decades, I have only been posting them for others to see since about September 2012.
