Memorial Day is effectively the first day of summer for most Americans, particularly for children, who know they will soon be finishing the school year. This young girl cooled off from the heat and summed up the day with a celebratory splash from an inflatable backyard splash pool today. Have a wonderful, safe summer, everyone.

Gary Holmes, photographer: I am an opportunist photographer of nature, landscapes, abstract, and other found objects of interest. I prefer to capture the spontaneity of things and events as they are occurring, and rarely photograph staged subjects other than portraits.
