Description
Eastern Phoebe (Sayornis phoebe) perches on a dormant tree branch as it searches for its next flying meal. These flycatchers are fairly commonly found through the eastern half of the United States, but do not pose for long before they pursue insects in mid-air. Their song is the basis for their common name, sounding like a raspy "FEE-beee." Although predominantly gray and white in color, they commonly have a pale yellow abdomen to add interest.

Gary Holmes, photographer: I am an opportunist photographer of nature, landscapes, abstract, and other found objects of interest. I prefer to capture the spontaneity of things and events as they are occurring, and rarely photograph staged subjects other than portraits. Although I have been a photographer for decades, I continue to study and learn the craft. Long ago, I embraced the hugely expanded opportunities offered by digital photography, but I have only been posting them online since September 2012. As a result, I have now successfully sold several of my works. I will continue to post my very best works on FAA and other sites every day or two, as time permits. Please revisit my sites periodically. I welcome your votes, support and gently constructive criticism or suggestions, all of which help guide me in my photographic odyssey. Nothing makes me happier as a photographer than knowing someone likes one of my works so much that they purchased one.
