Description
This long, narrow room can be found at the back of one of the galleries in the new Renzo Piano Pavilion at the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. Its purpose is enigmatic, with its row of bright red sofas facing broad, shaded windows, and its unadorned white walls, yet it offers a study in contrasts. I processed this super wide-angle photo to emphasize the interplay of criss-crossing and converging lines of light and shade on the wooden floor, and the contrasts between converging soft and crisp lines of the sofas and walls.
The Piano Pavilion, which opened in November 2013, is already a celebrated architectural work on its own. It presents a clean, evenly lit interior space that allows the artwork inside to hold the attention of visitors.

Gary Holmes, photographer: I am an opportunist photographer of nature, landscapes, abstract, and other found objects of interest. I prefer to capture the spontaneity of things and events as they are occurring, and rarely photograph staged subjects other than portraits. Although I have been a photographer for decades, I continue to study and learn the craft. Long ago, I embraced the hugely expanded opportunities offered by digital photography, but I have only been posting them online since September 2012.
