Artist's Description
Deep red hollyhocks stand out in the last light of the day against the adobe walls of the old mission church of San Francisco de Asis, in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico. The marked erosion of the clay on the low foreground wall resulted from a period of heavy rainfall in September 2013, leaving the straw binder exposed. This church was completed in 1815, along the old Santa Fe trail. It now faces away from the main highway and is not noticed my most passersby, but it is well known among artists and photographers. About Gary Holmes
Gary Holmes, photographer: I have always loved to photograph nature, landscapes, abstract, and other found objects of interest. I prefer the challenge of trying to capture the unpredictable spontaneity of things and events as they are occurring. I started with a Kodak Brownie as a child, but entered the world of real photography with a Canon AE-1 in the late 1970's. I have successfully sold a number of my photographs on Fine Art America, and have been recognized in international photography venues. Poster sized prints of three of my photographs were recently installed in a new medical clinic building in a major Texas medical center. My photo, "Blue Norther," was selected by the nonprofit Texas Bluebird Society for its 2010...

Very, very nice, Gary. The red hollyhock adds the perfect touch.
Gary Holmes replied:
Charles, thank you for your many comments. The hollyhock plant lured me again and again during my many walks around the church, but this one came out the best.
