Very powerful memorial.

Artist's Description

The Alamo Cenotaph stands in front of the original Alamo chapel on Alamo Street in San Antonio, Texas, in the center of the main plaza where its small army of Texas patriots died defending it from the Mexican Army during a dawn attack on March 6, 1836. It was erected during the centennial year of 1936, with the names of the defenders engraved on the base, below statues memorializing the better known heroes such as COL William Travis, James Bowie, and David Crockett. This battle initiated the war for Texas' independence from Mexico, and "Remember the Alamo" became the battle cry that inspired the Texian army to victory at San Jacinto just a few weeks later, on April 21, 1836. Photograph was captured hand-held, with only ambient lighting from the street, using a fisheye lens.

Gary Holmes, photographer: I have always loved to photograph nature, landscapes, abstract, and other found objects of interest. I prefer the challenge of trying to capture the unpredictable spontaneity of things and events as they are occurring. I started with a Kodak Brownie as a child, but entered the world of real photography with a Canon AE-1 in the late 1970's. I have successfully sold a number of my photographs on Fine Art America, and have been recognized in international photography venues. Poster sized prints of three of my photographs were recently installed in a new medical clinic building in a major Texas medical center. My photo, "Blue Norther," was selected by the nonprofit Texas Bluebird Society for its 2010...
