Description
A beautiful emerald green female Painted Bunting (Passerina ciris) blends with the new spring undergrowth in the Union Grove Wildlife Management Area on Stillhouse Hollow Lake, Bell County, Texas. While relatively drab in comparison with the vividly multi-colored males, this jewel toned female is a gem in her own right. The colors in this photograph were not significantly altered from the original.

Gary Holmes, photographer: I am an opportunist photographer of nature, landscapes, abstract, and other found objects of interest. Although I have done single and group portraits, I prefer the challenge of trying to capture the unpredictable spontaneity of things and events as they are occurring. I started with a Kodak Brownie as a child, but entered the world of real photography with a Canon AE-1 in the late 1970's. In the 1990's, I recognized the hugely expanded opportunities offered by digital photography. I have continued to develop my compositional and post-processing skills and have slowly acquired higher quality equipment. I finally became confident enough to begin posting my work online in September 2012, and have successfully sold several of my photographs. Nothing makes me happier as a photographer than knowing someone likes one of my works so much that they purchased one. I will continue to post my very best works on Fine Art America (http://gary-holmes.artistwebsites.com/) and 500px (http://500px.com/holmesidepi), as time permits. If you see something you like but the available purchase options do not meet your needs on either of these sites, please contact me through 500px or Fine Art America and I will try to work with you.
