Description
The first Scissor-Tailed Flycatcher (Tyrannus forficatus) that I have seen return to our area for 2015 was silhouetted against heavy clouds just before dawn yesterday. I recognized its call and saw it perched high on a bare tree in the Corps of Engineers park at Stillhouse Hollow dam in Bell County, Texas. I found a spot where it was backlit by some thinner clouds that allowed the faint pink of sunrise to come through. A beautiful start to a rainy but wonderful Easter weekend.

Gary Holmes, photographer: I have always loved to photograph nature, landscapes, abstract, and other found objects of interest. Although I have staged single and group portraits and still life photographs, I prefer the challenge of trying to capture the unpredictable spontaneity of things and events as they are occurring. I started with a Kodak Brownie as a child, but entered the world of real photography with a Canon AE-1 in the late 1970's. I have successfully sold a number of my photographs on Fine Art America, and have won several awards, including an Editors' Choice on 500px, as well as a 5-star Editor's Choice designation in Camerapixo's Hot Shots photo magazine, Volume 4.
