Description
A closeup look into the heart of a maguey plant reveals surprising beauty in its details, with the contrast of the magenta edges and spines against the silvery green leaves. The most fascinating feature is the asymmetric residual swirling pattern of the impressions left by the developing thorns on the new leaves that form beneath them. The menacing form of the inner leaves reminds me of the man-eating plant in The Little Shop of Horrors, if you are wondering about the title.

Gary Holmes, photographer: I have always loved to photograph nature, landscapes, abstract, and other found objects of interest. Although I have staged single and group portraits and still life photographs, I prefer the challenge of trying to capture the unpredictable spontaneity of things and events as they are occurring. I started with a Kodak Brownie as a child, but entered the world of real photography with a Canon AE-1 in the late 1970's. I have continued to develop my compositional and post-processing skills and have slowly acquired higher quality equipment that is now capable of putting those skills to their best use. I finally became confident enough to begin posting my work online in September 2012, and have successfully sold a number of my photographs on Fine Art America. Nothing makes me happier as a photographer than knowing someone likes one of my works so much that they purchased one. I will continue to post my very best works on Fine Art America (http://gary-holmes.artistwebsites.com/) and 500px (http://500px.com/holmesidepi), as time permits. If you see something you like but the available purchase options do not meet your needs on either of these sites, please contact me through 500px or Fine Art America, or directly at holmesidepi@yahoo.com, and I will try to arrange something else for you.
