Description
A male House Finch (Carpodacus mexicanus) paused from selecting his next Japanese privet berry long enough for me to capture him in full glory. His mate was in a nearby branch but declined to be photographed. These fairly common birds live in our area year-round, but are easier to spot in the winter when the foliage is not hiding them. They will occasionally come to our feeder, if the sparrows don't run them off. The subtle red coloration of the male is not prominent unless it is fairly close. They have a beautiful, varied song.
Gary Holmes is an advanced amateur, opportunist photographer of nature, landscapes, abstract, and other found objects of interest. Although I have been a photographer for decades, I have only started posting them for others to see in the past 6 months. I have had sufficient encouragement from posts on other sites to try putting some up for sale on FAA. Please see my larger collection of posts at http://500px.com/holmesidepi. I plan to progressively start posting the best of those on FAA over the next few months.
If you love, like, respect, admire, or even feel somewhat favorably inclined toward any of my works, please vote, vote+fave, and/or offer gently constructive criticism or suggestions. Votes and faves are important to me and help me understand what other people like or don't like. Even negative comments will help me to learn as I continue to improve my work.
Of course, I will be overjoyed if you find something that inspires you to purchase it.
